English Paper I Model Paper 2010-2011

English Paper I
(Two hours)
Answer to this Paper must be written on the paper provided separately.
You will not be allowed to write during the first 15 minutes.
This time is to be spent in reading the question paper.
The time given at the head of this Paper is the time allowed for writing the answers.
Attempt all four questions
The intended marks for the questions or parts of questions are given in bracket [ ].
You are advised to spend not more than 35 minutes in answering Question 1
and 20 minutes in answering Question 2.
Question 1
Write a composition of about 350-400 words on any one of the following: [25]
(Do not spend more than 35 minutes on this question)
a) It is better to be rich than talented. Write for or against the statement.
b) Status of women in India.
c) While you were travelling to the city for an urgent business, you were stuck in a traffic jam. Describe the scene your own words. (Reckless drivers, helpless traffic personnel, impatient travelers, amused passers by.)
d) Write a short story on the theme ‘I want doesn’t always get’.
e) Study the picture given below: Write a short story or description of what it suggests to you.

Select ONE of the following: [10]
(Do not spend more than 20 minutes on this question)
a) Your school is going to organize a camp for the illiterates in the neighborhood. You, being the Secretary of the Social Welfare club of the school, wish to get a sponsor for the camp. Write a letter to the Chairman of a renowned industrial firm requesting to sponsor your mission. Write in detail how the school plans to organize the camp.
